Gibbs Laidler Risk and Insurance Annual Conference 2022
Following our Covid related hiatus, the Gibbs Laidler Annual Insurance & Risk Conference is back in 2022 with another strong lineup, returning to York on Thursday 5th – Friday 6th May. The talks this year have been specially selected to address the market changes we have seen over the last two years and future planning for expected changes in the market.
Prior to Covid-19 we had already started to see changes for insurance and risk within the industry. From markets starting to ‘harden’, with professional indemnity premiums rapidly increasing (despite the majority of the sector having no claims), to the level of information required by insurers, in particular on higher-value buildings. Add the repercussions of a nationwide lockdown, we can expect to see more drastic changes which will require us to be more innovative in the way we approach insurance and risk in future. We can expect Insurers to inevitably change their approach to the cover (or even lack of it) for Covid-19 following the estimated £1.2bn expected in insurance pay-outs, £900m of which the Association of British Insurers predicts will be for Business Interruption alone. In addition, we have already seen short term adaptations to risk assessment strategy in order to accommodate for the lockdown procedure which we expect to see challenging the likes of disrepair claims in future. These are just a few examples among many where Covid-19 procedures have created a knock-on effect for Housing Associations approach to insurance and risk.
Confirmed speaker presentation topics include latent defects, high rise and valuations, procurement, sub-contractor checking, flood and climate change, disrepair regulations, and more. As we work on putting together the full conference programme, those who attend are guaranteed plenty of opportunities to network, as well as share experiences with both sector colleagues and the speakers.
